Singapore, July 1, 2026: Singapore is set to strengthen its defense capabilities after the United States approved a proposed military package worth US$22.3 million, which includes the sale of additional AGM-114R Hellfire missiles and related support equipment.

According to a statement released by the US State Department on June 30, the proposed deal includes 24 additional Hellfire missiles, increasing the total number of missiles under the package to 67 units. The sale also covers engineering, technical, logistics, maintenance, and training support services.

Singapore Enhances Air Force Operational Readiness

Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) confirmed that the acquisition will support the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) in meeting its operational and training requirements.

The AGM-114R Hellfire missile is a precision-guided air-to-ground weapon manufactured by Lockheed Martin. The missile is currently deployed on the RSAF’s AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopters, providing advanced strike capabilities against ground targets.

MINDEF stated that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) continues to take a long-term and strategic approach to defense procurement to ensure cost-effective investments while maintaining operational preparedness.

Additional Support Included in the Package

Besides the missiles, the approved package includes:

  • Launcher upgrades
  • Spare parts
  • Maintenance and repair services
  • Software support
  • Technical publications
  • Engineering and logistics assistance
  • Training and technical support

The latest approval follows an earlier defense package valued at approximately US$12.4 million, which did not require notification to the US Congress due to its lower value.

US Says Deal Will Not Affect Regional Military Balance

The US State Department emphasized that the proposed sale will not alter the existing military balance in the Asia-Pacific region. Washington described Singapore as an important partner that contributes to political stability and economic growth across Asia.

The department also noted that the acquisition supports US foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the defense capabilities of a key regional ally.

Officials added that Singapore is well-positioned to integrate the new missiles, equipment, and training into its existing military framework without difficulty.

Strategic Defense Cooperation Continues

The approval highlights the ongoing defense cooperation between the United States and Singapore. As regional security challenges continue to evolve, Singapore remains focused on maintaining a modern and capable military force through strategic acquisitions and advanced defense technologies.
