Hilary Duff explained her unconventional education growing up as a child star. During a March 2 appearance on the Table Manners podcast, the former ‘Lizzie McGuire’ actress joked that she received “zero education” while working in the entertainment industry, but says she isn’t bothered by it.
Hilary Duff said she had ‘zero education’ as a child star
The ‘How I Met Your Father’ star shared that her mother, Susan, Duff, encouraged her to earn a GED, which she eventually completed. While her formal schooling may have been limited, Hilary explained that she feels she educated herself through life experiences and by exploring topics that interested her.

These days, Hilary says her son Luca, 13, whom she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie, often teaches her new things from school
And when it comes to Luca, as well as her and husband Matthew Koma’s children, Banks, 7, May, 4, and Townes, 22 months, the “Come Clean” singer is even more aspirational about their schooling, saying that getting a proper education for her children will be “super important.”
To that end, Hilary and Matthew have tried their best to maintain a normal routine for their children, even while Hilary is on tour with her new album, Luck… or Something.
“I just don’t want my life to be a huge shadow on how they live their lives,” she said. “That’s one of my biggest fears, going on tour and being so forward-facing because they’re the stars in our house.”
